Event and Other Volunteer Opportunities
Administrative Assistance (at adoption center) (Basic) Help with various office needs such as: data entry, filing, stuffing envelopes and metering postage. Adult/Youth Teams: this task is open to youths 15 yrs. and older and to Adult/Youth teams (open ratio) Schedule: at request of Director of Volunteer Services Deep Cleaning - Dog (at adoption center) (Basic) Volunteers who do a deep cleaning of a dog bedroom to help keep them extra clean. Once (or twice) a month these volunteers do a thorough cleaning (scrub the floors and walls). It takes about an hour to thoroughly clean one dog bedroom. Sunday mornings or Mondays would be best but can be flexible. Adult/Youth Teams: this is open to Adult/Youth teams with a limit of one youth per adult. Training: review training guide and 1 shadow session required Schedule: Weekly
Events: Adoption Events (locations vary) (Basic) The adoption events team members assist with off-site adoption events to include transporting animals and equipment, set-up and tear-down, dog handling, cat supervision, and adoption counseling. Schedule No established schedule - Occasional events. Events: Fundraising and Promotional Events (locations vary) (Basic) The events team members help with special events. Signature SPCA events include: K93K Dog Walk, Fur Ball, Santa Paws, and Whole Foods Dog Wash. There are multiple smaller events throughout the year that call for table attendants. These are a great opportunity for exposure for the SPCA for increased awareness by the general public.
Pet Food Pantry Prep (adoption center) (Basic) This task helps prepare for the monthly Pet Food Pantry event held every third Saturday. Involves moving large bags of food and coordination of pet supply groupings. Adult/Youth Teams: this task is open to youths 15 yrs. and older and to Adult/Youth teams (open ratio) Training: No training is necessary and this is open to non-volunteers (waiver required). Schedule: Friday prior to third Saturday of every month 4pm-6pm Facilities Friend: Laundry and more (at adoption center & Saving Lives Spay/Neuter Clinic) (Basic) Wash, dry, fold blankets and towels. Requires handling soiled items. Toys are washed in the machine and air-dried. Follow directions for the bleach and soap ratio posted in the laundry room. Help keep the adoption center clean by washing internal windows in the adoption areas and other basic cleaning as requested. Schedule: Everyday (time is flexible)
Handyman/Yard Maintenance (at adoption center and lost & found facility) (Basic) Handyman volunteers help with carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc. Yard maintenance mow, weed and plant vegetation as requested. Schedule: at request of Volunteer Services Director Food Barrel (locations vary) (Basic) Collects donations of pet food, etc. from participating stores. Weekly visits to assigned store, lifting, stacking and hauling of donated items. Delivery to SPCA, removing items from vehicle and stacking on assigned shelving. Record keeping of donated items to be turned in when delivery is made at SPCA. Schedule: ongoing assignment for local store Medical (at adoption center) (Advanced) Volunteers with prior experience working in a veterinary center giving meds and injections to cats and dogs are invited to help us give meds to some of the Adoption Center pets each day. Training: review training guide and attend training session required Schedule: 2 shifts per day, 1 volunteer per shift Everyday, 8 am or 9 am (AM Meds) and 6 pm or 7 pm (PM Meds)
Transport (locations vary) (Basic) Volunteers usually have SUVs or other enclosed large vehicle or a truck. Transport items that would not fit or be appropriate cargo in a conventional automobile. Examples include transporting: animals to events, bulky supplies to event location, oversized donated items such as dog kennels, dog houses, mower, etc.; recycling of cardboard, white paper, aluminum and plastic to recycling centers. Schedule: at request of Director of Volunteer Services Voice Mail Retrieval (can be done from home) (Basic) Access SPCA Lost & Found Facility or Saving Lives Spay/Neuter Clinic voice mail box and transcribe messages. Email messages to staff at Lost & Found Facility or S/N Clinic. Training: review training guide Schedule: weekly shifts

There are two levels of volunteering opportunities, basic and advanced. All volunteers must attend a required basic volunteer orientation session (click here for schedule). Advanced volunteer tasks will require additional training and/or volunteer experience.
